The project will prevent the release of approximately 493,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually. According a Senior Technology Advisor of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), that’s the equivalent of removing nearly 75,400 cars from the road every year. This helps ensure that the environment remains suitable for the many species of animals that depend on the mountain ecosystem.

Wind turbines are safer for birds than buildings, cars, cats and other accepted parts of our lives. For every 10,000 bird deaths in the U.S. caused by human activity, less than one is caused by a wind turbine. CCP is committed to working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Colorado Division of Wildlife to ensure the wind turbines are as safe as possible. This includes avian studies conducted at the project site.

  • The EPA, the Colorado Department of Health and the Environment, the Colorado Brownfields Foundation, the Clear Creek Watershed Foundation, as well as the Clear Creek County Board of County Commissioners and the Governor’s Energy Office are some of the organizations that have demonstrated support for CCP.  In addition the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Sierra Club has issued a position paper endorsing wind power.

Here is a listing of support letters:

The history of Clear Creek County is the history of the mining boom of the 19th Century and the ensuing legacy of that industry. After the boom had waned, the unprofitable mines were abandoned, and have been left to leach metals into the local streams. The current project footprint is in close proximity to some orphaned mines, which have not been properly closed and are in need of remediation.

The principals of CCP have a history of successful mine reclamation and would like to bring this expertise to the Highland Park Wind Project. CCP views this project as an opportunity to work with EPA , CBF, and CCWF and return the green to the mountain sides. In addition, this remediation would increase the health of the Upper Clear Creek Watershed.
